Iowa Public Television has announced that it will bring the new "Doctor Who" series to its airwaves starting in March. "Doctor Who" is a British science fiction TV series that originally premiered in 1963 and for years has had a home in syndication on IPTV. A succession of actors has portrayed the title character, a time-traveling alien who serves as a good Samaritan throughout the universe. A recent revival of the series in England — with spiffed-up special effects and scripts drenched in wit and irony — was launched with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. Beginning March 24, these fresh episodes of "Doctor Who" will air on IPTV at 11:05 p.m. Saturdays and at 6 p.m. Sundays. The network also will help launch the series as part of its Festival pledge drive with a special showing at 10 p.m. March 10.
