Star Trek Script Ready

Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci announced that they have finished the script for the upcoming eleventh Star Trek feature film. They also officially confirmed that the storyline does indeed focus on the early years of Kirk and Spock, featuring some academy time and some of the early voyages of Captain Kirk.
“What was a little daunting was while we were writing it, they sent over a poster with the release date on it,” said Kurtzman. “We hadn’t written ‘fade in’ yet.” Orci added, "We’ve never had a movie poster before we’ve had a script. That’s pressure."...

The pair are wary of how the movie will be received by other fans. "You can never be just a fanboy in the eyes of other fanboys,” Orci said, “because you’re also, in a way, the establishment. You’re like, ‘No, but I’m you.’ But you’re accountable for all your decisions, and inevitably you can’t please everybody.” Kurtzman said "You have to take your genre seriously. If you write it tongue-in-cheek, the audience will see it, and they’ll feel they’re being talked down to." By using the idea of a prequel, they hoped to avoid any contradictions with existing Star Trek canon, because the story hasn't yet been told. They hope to both capture a new generation of fans with this film, and at the same time give existing fans an intimate glimpse into the lives of characters we already know and love.
