The Fourth & Eighth Doctors Meet
Doctor Who fanatics from all over the country flooded to Dagenham's Jo Richardson School last weekend for a top convention. And there was no doubt who was the main attraction.Tom Baker, who starred as the Time Lord between 1974 and 1981 was there in the flesh. He told the POST: "It takes me back to old times. I could do conventions every single weekend if I wanted to. I could go to the US or Australia, because it's a worldwide thing. "I've given it up now, but because I know the organisers and they asked me at the right time, I said yes. "They are long days. I left home before 7am and I won't be back until after 9pm. But I'm revitalised by the children. I finished 30 years ago. It's a perfect example of nostalgia."Also near the top of the autograph hunters' lists was Paul McGann, who played the Doctor in a 1996 TV film.Invasion featured a long list of guests from the show's long history and was organised by 10th Planet, who are based at Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Barking. The audience had the chance to meet their heroes, pose for photographs, listen to talks and take part in question and answer sessions.Paul Adgar, who came all the way from Tyne and Wear, told the POST he had come dressed as a 'Utopian Master'.He said: "It's been very good today. They've got a very good guest list."Paul Jones of Hampshire added: "Tom Baker doesn't do conventions normally. His last one was eight years ago. He's an absolute legend. The stuff he comes out with you just want to write it down.
