Freema confirmed for The Survivors remake

Julie Graham and Max Beesley are to lead the cast of the BBC’s remake of the seventies drama series Survivors.
Julie Graham and Max Beesley are to lead the cast of the BBC’s remake of the seventies drama series Survivors.
As reported by The Stage earlier this year, the new version of the drama - which originally aired in 1975 and ran for three series - is being written by Adrian Hodges, who wrote the BBC’s Ruby in the Smoke and Shadow in the North, both adapted from Philip Pullman books.
Graham and Beesley will be joined by Nikki Amuka-Bird, who appeared in the recent adaptation of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, and Paterson Joseph, who is in Channel 4’s Peep Show.
The cast also includes former Doctor Who assistant Freema Agyeman.
Hodges said: “Survivors is about what it means to be human. It asks questions about our nature and confronts us with our deepest fears. When everything else is stripped away, would we band together and find the best in ourselves, or would we fall apart and retreat into barbarism and savagery? Survivors is about adventure, fear, love, loyalty and friendship. But above all, it’s about new hope.”
Filming is currently taking place in Manchester until September and the show will be broadcast in the autumn on BBC1.
