From the BBC: Smith, who is the 11th actor to play the Time Lord on TV, will take over from David Tennant in the lead role of the long-running show next year.
Dr Who is one of the BBC's most popular shows and Moffat is under a lot of pressure to continue its success.
"What if I broke Doctor Who? That would be a tragedy," he said at the 2009 Screenwriters' Festival in Cheltenham.
"Yes, you do feel [the] pressure," he added.
Filming began in July on the new series of the time travel saga.

Barry Letts 1925-2009
Barry Letts, producer of Doctor Who has passed way at 84. He produced the Jon Pertwee years from 1970 to 1974. Previously an actor, Letts first worked on Doctor Who as director of the 1968 Patrick Troughton serial "Enemy of the World", before accepting the job of producer during production Jon Pertwee's first season, in 1969.In addition to his producing role, Letts also directed several serials during his time in charge of the programme - "Terror of the Autons", "Carnival of Monsters" and "Planet of the Spiders".
In addition, he handled much of the direction for "Inferno" after Douglas Camfield was taken ill, and after leaving the series as producer he directed "The Android Invasion" for his successor, Philip Hinchcliffe. He also co-wrote "The Daemons" with Robert Sloman (under the pseudonym 'Guy Leopold') and worked heavily with Sloman on the writer's other scripts for the programme.
Letts's also created one of Doctor Who's most memoral characters: Sarah Jane Smith, played by Elisabeth Sladen. He was also deciding factor in the casting of Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor.
Letts remained fond of and connected with the series right up until his death. When producer Graham Williams broke his leg during production of season 16 in 1978 Letts helped to keep an eye on the series, and more officially he served as Executive Producer in 1980, overseeing the inexperienced John Nathan-Turner's first season in charge of the programme.
For many years thereafter Letts wrote many novels, novelisations and radio serials connected to the series. He also appeared on many DVD commentaries and various documentaries. He also gained extensive credits outside of Doctor Who, most notably as producer of the BBC's "Classic Serial" strand during the late 1970s and early 1980s. In this role he produced many acclaimed and award-winning adaptations of classic novels, including "Great Expectations", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Jane Eyre". Later, he directed episodes for the soap opera "EastEnders".

Paul McGann May Never Return to Role
“Doctor Who” fans hoping for a reunion of all the living Doctors for this year’s Children in Need special will be disappointed to hear the following news.
Actor Paul McGann, who played the eighth Doctor in the 1996 television movie has recently said that he has serious doubts he will ever reprise the role of the Doctor again.
“It’s highly unlikely, because since I walked off that set in 1996, no one’s ever called me, I’ve never met these people, I’ve never been down to Cardiff and met what’s his face, Russell T Davies (who masterminded Doctor Who’s revival),” McGann says.
He added: “So no, maybe haven’t they got my number. There’s always rumours, it’s nice to stoke the fire. I’m always hearing them.”
McGann has reprised the role for the Big Finish audio dramas.

The New Who Logo
Here it is, the new Doctor Who Logo for 2010. It proves to me that the new producer, Steven Moffett, is heading the show in the right direction. The new logo pays respect to the 1960's as does the new look of the exterior of the TARDIS.For me the new logo stands tall and proud and and does not pretend to be something it isn't. It tells us that DOCTOR WHO is the greatest scifi show ever.
Now I can't wait for the new look of the interior of the TARDIS, bring it on!

New Who Logo
From the Official BBC Doctor Who site: Doctor Who has engaged and amazed a global audience for over forty years, constantly raising the bar and regenerating to deliver new and compelling adventures. It's all change again in 2010 with Matt Smith playing the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan onboard as companion Amy Pond and a brilliant, brand new logo!
On one level, the logo is the iconic image that represents Doctor Who. But it's much more than that - it becomes an icon that is recognised from Cardiff to California, an emblem of excitement, humour, scary monsters, brave companions and the Doctor! And so the new logo must be stylish, fresh, distinctive and bold. Must be. And will be. See for yourself when we reveal it exclusively, on their site at 8am on Tuesday, 6th October!
