Merlin: The Doctor's Saturday Night Replacement
From timesonline: The success of Doctor Who, and to a lesser extent Robin Hood, on Saturday nights encouraged producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy to develop an ambitious new version of the legend of Merlin and Arthur, geared for a new type of audience. “We didn’t want to make a 15th-century version of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. We wanted to produce something that merged the legend with big family entertainment,” Murphy says. “That’s something Doctor Who has made possible. The BBC is more willing to commission innovative and fantastical programmes.”
As they looked at how to approach Merlin, their first influence was the US show Smallville. Merlin aims to do for the Arthurian legend what Smallville has done so effectively for the story of Clark Kent – recounting his life long before he became Superman. Set in a Camelot that existed before the golden age, it is a kingdom in which knights sit around a square table, where Lady Guinevere is a servant girl called Gwen, where magic is banned, and Merlin and Arthur are young men.

RTD Wish List
Slow Doctor Who news these days, have to take the rough with the smooth. Sadly it's about RTD and his thoughts on the future of Doctor Who.
I'll be glad when he's gone...
Davies, who will stand down as lead writer and executive producer of the show next year, has said that he would like to see Tovey, who appeared in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys, take the role of the Doctor and have J.K Rowling guest in a Christmas special.

The Ultimate Adventure

Playing to the right in Gallifrey TV is The Ultimate Adventure Stage Play. Which some wonderful person recorded in 1989 and has put on youtube. Got to love the fans! The Ultimate Adventure was a 1989 stage play, written by Terrance Dicks based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who.
The play ran from 23 March and starred Jon Pertwee (who had played the Third Doctor in the series) as the Doctor. On 29 April Pertwee was ill, so his understudy David Banks, who played the Cyber Leader in the series from Earthshock onwards, played the Doctor for the matinee and evening performances. Pertwee continued in the role until 3 June and two days later Colin Baker, who had played the Sixth Doctor, took over the lead until the run ended on 19 August. The play was adjusted accordingly to conform with the Sixth Doctor's persona.

False McGann Casting According to BBC
As I said Thursday, the McGann story should be taken with a grain of salt...
Digidalspy is reporting: The BBC has rejected tabloid claims that Paul McGann has been cast in a forthcoming Doctor Who special.
A spokeswoman for the show told Digital Spy: "There is no truth to the story at all."
I still like to think there is some truth in the story, McGann could have been one of the best Doctor's given more of a chance on screen. Thanks to his audio stories though, we at least get some nice stories of the 8th Doctor. What do you all think?

Oh I hope This One is True!!
Grain of salt time again my fellow whoivians. The Sun is reporting: Paul McGann is to return for one of the Doctor Who Specials next year. He is expected to begin filming in October or November for one of four feature-length specials to be shown instead of a series in 2009.Flashback scenes will see him battered from the Time War and shorn of the long hair he had in the film.
An insider said: “Fans loved Paul’s Doctor and feel he was never given the proper chance to shine. Reference is often made to the Time War which wiped out the Time Lords and this will give them a taste of that.”
Mr. McGann has been playing the Time-Lord in Big Finish Audio stories for several years now.
Tate and Simms to Return?
Again from the Sun: The 40-year-old comedy queen, Cathrine Tate who played the Time Lord’s dippy sidekick Donna Noble, will reappear in one of four Who specials planned for next year.
And fans will be delighted — and a bit scared — to learn Life On Mars star John Simm, 38, is also back.

Robin Hood Series 3
From the BBC: BBC Publicity have confirmed that Jonas Armstrong aka Robin Hood will be leaving the show next year. How the legacy unfolds after Jonas leaves is in itself mysterious and intriguing, and guaranteed to make fans desperate to find out what happens next.Series 3 returns in 2009 and Robin is older and tougher, hell bent on revenge following the tragic murder of Marian by Gisborne and the Sheriff's failure to kill Prince John. The Sheriff is more precarious and unpredictable than ever. There's also the much anticipated arrival of Friar Tuck who joins the gang.
Jonas Armstrong says, "Playing Robin Hood has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Over the last three years I've met some wonderful people and have only amazing memories to take with me. I'm grateful to the fans for their support and to all the cast and crew for their friendship and loyalty throughout, but the time has come to take on new challenges and look at new opportunities."
Executive Producer, Foz Allan says, "We cannot confirm the series climax nor can we guarantee who will survive and who won't. You will have to watch it to see! But we can assure you Robin's exit will be unmissable."
Robin Hood Series 3 is currently filming in Budapest and will return to BBC One in 2009 for another 13 episodes.
